10 Questions With Piri [Q&A]

Photos by Isabella Fowden

We caught up with Piri ahead of Piri & Friends, her upcoming shows in London and Manchester, where she’ll be joined by three of her friends and fellow artists: Maisi and the Disco, Loveday and Tapwaterlucy. Her debut album, girl in stem, was written, produced, mixed and mastered entirely by Piri herself, bringing together dance-pop, electronic music and jazz influences. With her new single "Trampoline" on the way, we chatted about what she’s been listening to, her dream collaborators and artists she thinks should be on everyone's radar:

1. What's your holy trinity of dance/pop albums?

Pinkpantheress "Fancy That", Disclosure "Settle" and for a throwback, Justin Timberlake "Justified".

2. If your debut album girl in stem were a candle, what would it smell like?

girl in stem would smell like figs!!! A bit sweet a bit funky and a bit non conventional.

3. Dream artist to tour with?

I would love to tour with Confidence Man or PinkPantheress

4. Give us a fashion hot take.

I've never been a fan of doc martens. I'm sorry.

5. Dream scrapbooking rotation?

I'm gonna say Trisha Paytas, Doja Cat and Zara Larsson, which is quite a rogue combo but it would be funny ASF.

6. What's inspiring you the most right now?

I'm always endlessly inspired by jazz fusion, but I've been loving Overmono and Four Tet’s more chill and ambient dance music a lot lately.

7. Drop some "food 4 thought" - something people should think more about.

I'm really on my fitness vibe right now since I started bouldering. I wanna encourage everyone to find a type of exercise that they love, there will be a niche one out there you will fall in love with and it will change your life!!!

8. Who is the most iconic witch?

Most iconic witch is my friend Tapwaterlucy. IYKYK.

9. What's the future of dance-pop?

Self made! I think artists are gonna be getting more and more independent and therefore more and more creative and unbridled!! Dance pop is growing in every direction and I love it.

10. Who are your OnesToWatch?

I'm gonna have to list my 3 besties who are supporting me at my shows in November! Maisi and the Disco, Loveday and the aforementioned iconic witch Tapwaterlucy!!! PLSSS check them out they all write all of their own music and they are such genuine and talented girls!!!
