thuy Gives Us A Lot More to Love With ‘I hope you see this (deluxe)'

It's always cooking in the Bay Area. Currently overflowing with a hotbox of sultry R&B hit mavens who have been crowding radio with their rocky anxiety and romantic follies, enters thuy, an artist who equals them in talent and charisma and who has done it her own way. Learning more about this Vietnamese-American artist, many of the archetypes hold true: hard-working family filled with gender and career expectations, young creative deftly balancing the foreign and familiar high school politics of her era, and plotting a course to help people by becoming a nurse.

Shocking now is the assertion that she was shy, because her potent presence now is room-cascading, the confidence and range of her voice following her into every meeting and hang. Having popped off after the success of a series of singles, thuy like many artists was startled into a new arc by the pandemic, watching viral numbers and radio adds occur without any of the physical affirmations or experiences. Rebuilding her 2021 debut EP,
i hope you see this, fortified with some excellent new material including the proper bop "inhibitions" and the luscious ballad "distance between us" makes even more sense through that lens, and it creates that trampoline double bounce effect to help catch up her new fans to all her pandemic success.

As thuy explains, it's also about creating a proper bookend to that era.
“The deluxe project is a continuation of the theme that I’m closing the door on the past in order to enter a new chapter in my life.” There is so much merit to this EP, the title should serve not as a suggestion but as a proper warning, you need to see this, you need to hear this, and thuy will give you all the hope you need upon doing so.

i hope you see this (deluxe).
