Tommy Newport’s “Tongue & Cheek” Is an Intoxicating Bout of Introspection

Harnessing his symphonic vocal energy and pure indie-pop perfection, Tommy Newport is back with his latest single “Tongue & Cheek.” Exploring themes of introspection and the rather intoxicating first encounters of love, Newport is continuing to prove that his playful personality and contagious choruses will undoubtedly have listeners on their feet.

Showing no fear when it comes to experimentalism, he explains, "'Tongue & Cheek' was of course inspired by the phrase “tongue in cheek”, but having said it wrong my whole life, I opted to title it 'Tongue & Cheek.' The song is a self-ode to not taking life too seriously and understanding how life goes, always having to play it by ear and stay on your toes. It's a nod to the fiery beginnings of a relationship and, lyrically, is a larger-than-life glorification of meeting someone for the first time...in the hot desert of Amarillo at a fashion show. It's my way of saying life is made up of so many miracles.”

Grooving guitars and buzzing beats encapsulate falsetto vocals into outbursts of pure indie intoxication. Newport’s discography proves that his lavish lyricism and euphoric excellence continuously connect listeners with his compelling chronicles and likening sound. “Tongue & Cheek” is another brilliant single and one guaranteed to lighten up any dancefloor.
