10 Questions With Vanillaroma on Their Sophomore Album 'i run like this'

For those uninitiated, Vanillaroma is a multi-member band of substance and aesthetic composure, a true rarity in today's AI-generated stock music beneath pretty proxies. That contrast is what appeals to us, a true fermentation of music, lyrical angst, and beneath-the-skin humor. So, to celebrate the release of their sophomore album, i run like this, we reached out to these SoCal adjacent rabble-rousers and tried to break down a process that seems to parallel winemaking.

Ones To Watch: Who is Vanillaroma?

Vanillaroma: A couple of kids just running around a big city trying to have a good time. It’s just really expensive to live here…lol

What is i run like this all about?

It’s about everything we can remember to be about while trying to be all together all at one time… or so it goes

The album really leans into a lo-fi indie aesthetic, with sudden gorgeous sparks of bright sounds. How do you go about songwriting typically?

We typically write songs in our grandparents' wine cellars. We all come from wine families and we’ve all found solace in writing in these cold wine rooms. That’s probably as best as we can put it.

Any collaborations? Who produced the album?

We are planning to collaborate with FINNNEAS and his sister but we haven’t made contact yet. We just really love the history behind how they made their albums and how it involves wine rooms.

How do you feel you’ve changed since I Love This Dream

We’ve definitely all grown older since then, aged by time and by the pandemic that hit the world! This album channels all of that angst we held in for those years…….

Can we expect more of this style in the future, or is it a constant evolution?

We’re always hoping for each album sounding a lot waxier, in terms of sonic quality. We’d love to be able to channel the angst from other times we’ve all had together (tour, having covid together, Jack nights).

Besides this excellent album, what else should we be on the lookout for?

Wow thank you thank you! AN EP FOR SURE! We are about to go on tour with some big names but we can’t spill those just yet. (Very excited) we can’t tell though.

What's inspiring you right now outside of music?

Sunset Blvd

Magazine

Candle making

Exploring technology with friends.

Home or Away for the holidays?

We all live pretty close to home, so we’re gonna be going back and forth. Not sure if that answers your question! Both?

Who are your Ones To Watch?

Nilufer Yanya

White Lotus soundtrack makers…

Hoping for a Lily Allen album soon… Lily where you at?

Mamalarky

Travis Scott side project

Brockhampton
