Visit The ‘Love Department’ With Seanna Pereira’s New EP

Pop-star-in-the-making Seanna Pereira is taking listeners on a trip through the Love Department with her new EP of the same name, charting a course through indifferent lovers, explosive chemistry, and partners who just don’t know how good they’ve got it.

Love Department’s six-song collection shows off Pereira’s accessible songwriting, with lyrics that are both simple and cutting, as well as pop production designed to get you on your feet and dancing.

Pereira sets the tone with first track “Arsonist,” where she declares, “Baby, I’m stubborn // I’m my father’s daughter,” and refuses to let go of a relationship that’s “a sickness and a curse.” It might be a toxic love, but as the artist puts it, “I like a little pain // and you like that, don’t you?”

Songs like “Mother” and “Options” showcase Pereira’s sense of humor. On the former, she gets rid of a guy who doesn’t want a girlfriend, but a mother who’s willing to clean up his messes — a role she refuses to play. Meanwhile, on “Options,” the singer reminds an indifferent lover that “these other boys would kill just to be an option.”

It’s not all bums and broken hearts, though; love songs “It’s Never Enough” and “Chemistry” see Pereira falling desperately in love with someone she just can’t get enough of.

“I don’t mean to be direct but I've always dreamed of a love like this,” she sings on “It’s Never Enough” over an early 00s-style acoustic guitar. “You’re all that I want // It’s never enough.”

Meanwhile, “Chemistry,” a catchy track with a trap beat, dares Pereira’s lover to get it together and create some sparks. “Can you finish what you started?” she asks, adding, “You can’t deny this chemistry.”

However, it’s title track “Love Department” that stands out as a particularly vulnerable moment from Pereira. While the EP’s other tracks see the singer either brushing off subpar dates or falling head-over-heels, this song describes Pereira’s struggles to figure out love.

“I’m not the smartest in the love department,” she admits, sharing her earnest hopes that, even though she’s failed in the past, Pereira hopes that this is the relationship that sticks.

Pereira’s EP tracks the ups and downs of modern dating, whether it’s a dude that just won’t commit, or a relationship so fiery, it feels like you’ll both explode. Want to feel like someone understands just how impossible dating can be? Just take a tour through Pereira’s Love Department
