Vita Links With Flatbush Zombies' Meechy Darko in "Y.T.B." Video

Australian multidimensional artist VITA teams up with Flatbush Zombies’ Meechy Darko to bring us the heat with the latest video for her single “Y.T.B.,” taken from her debut EP LIBRE

With a bassline that bites and lyrics so visceral you can’t help but wince through this track, “Y.T.B.” makes its impact clear from the outset. Similar to artists like WILLOW and Sault, VITA tiptoes the line between rap and rock, unconcerned with the confinement of genre yet devoted to making something we will feel.

“Y.T.B.” is raw and enthralling, paired with a visual that is cinematography at its bare bones. It gets no grittier than black and brown folk drinking beer out of boots in a mosh pit, and Meechy Darko only intensifies this with his signature rasp.

We’ve been fed the false narrative that our anger is the dirtiest part of us, to bypass it with a smile through gritted teeth and feigned positivity. The status quo is maintained the more that we behave as palatable as possible, but VITA reminds us of the beauty inherent in destruction. She embodies tenacity and carries the power of her ancestors through her work, using her art to scream out what their stifled voices could not. If anger is the only element strong enough to burn down old paradigms, so be it.

“Y.T.B.” sticks to your skin like sweat, a bug buzzing in your ear. It asks you to explore your relationship with your own rage: is it ignored, hidden behind an Instagram filter, silently festering in the pit of you? Or are you finally ready to witness it, honor it, and express it freely?
