Wallice, the LA-based artist is taking her unique sound to new heights with her latest single “I Want You Yesterday,” taken from her forthcoming debut album The Jester, out November 15. Following the success of her EPs Mr. Big Shot and 90s American Superstar and touring with Still Woozy and The 1975, Wallice has garnered attention for her eclectic blend of indie-pop and alternative rock, and her latest single “I Want You Yesterday” effortlessly bridges this gap.

“I Want You Yesterday” opens with a fusion of a bass-heavy and whimsical flute-like texture, instantly hooking the listener. Wallice’s distinct vocals blend with the introspective lyrics with an earworm of a melody, captivating listeners. The track delves into themes of love, infatuation, and obsession with a unique twist on the classic cat-and-mouse dynamic.

“‘I Want You Yesterday’ is the first song that I wrote with Mikey Freedom Hart and Marinelli as a trio. It was the beginning of something really great, and the three of us ended up doing the whole album together,” shares Wallice. “This song started as a beat that reminded me of something off a Beatles record. When we first wrote it, I didn’t think we nailed the initial version of the verses, but I loved the simplicity of the chorus and I wanted something that would complement that. We ended up doing a ‘how would [insert any artist] write this verse’ exercise, and wound up with a really fun song that I particularly like because it’s a little outside of my comfort zone.”

Wallice compares the intense rush of falling in love to bull-fighting, “Fell in love with a carnivore, I don’t think he likes me / I’m in love with a matador, kinda horny for his red flags.” Through this all-too relatable imagery, Wallice invites us to empathize with the narrator’s longing. This bold imagery is contrasted by a catchy, almost confessional chorus. “When there’s something I want, I always get my way, and baby, I want / I want you yesterday,” Wallice effortlessly transitions between vulnerability and confidence, which invites her listeners to reflect on the complexities of love and desire.

With The Jester on the horizon, Wallice is poised to captivate audiences with a project that is unapologetically raw.
