Wunderhorse Hold On To Dear Life On Moody New Single "The Rope"

Cornish four-piece band Wunderhorse embraces their grunge and post-punk influences on their latest single, "The Rope." The track represents a significant evolution in the band's musical journey, showcasing a refined sound and highlighting frontman Jacob Slater's growth as a songwriter and the band's skills in working together. The song's production, while polished, retains an organic feel, allowing the band's electrifying live energy to burst through the recording.

The single opens with layers of shimmering guitar riffs and a deep, grooving bassline, immediately setting an alluring, melancholic tone. Slater's raw vocals tackle emotional restraint and themes of longing, drawing listeners into a dynamic narrative of tension and release. Lyrics like "Just hold on/ And don't let go/ Don't let go/ Don't let go of the rope" reveal a desperate yet hopeful touch to the track. Halfway through, a distorted guitar solo bursts, creating a sense of cathartic release before quieting down into the song's finale.

"The Rope" came together just weeks before Wunderhorse embarked on their most significant headline shows to date, echoing the ethos of spontaneity and urgency that permeates their recent album Midas. The record uses an organic, unpolished recording process to capture the raw, unfiltered essence of Wunderhorse's celebrated live performances.

"When we first went into the studio to make this record, the only thing we were sure about is how we wanted it to sound: very imperfect, very live, very raw," Slater explains. "We wanted it to sound like your face is pressed up against the amplifiers, like you've been locked inside the bass drum."

A stacked summer ahead will see Wunderhorse stop by Glastonbury (Park Stage), Reading + Leeds, Green Man, Bilbao BBK Live, TRNSMT and Lollapalooza. Wunderhorse will also play headline shows at the Warsaw in New York City and The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.
