About You Throws Out a Sonic Life Raft in “God Don’t Let Me Lose My Mind” [Premiere]

Meet About You, the five-piece indie rock group whose music focuses on capturing stories both specific and relatable to all. The Los Angeles-based band's new cinematic single, “God Don’t Let Me Lose My Mind,” tells the compelling story of someone who has regained hope, which is accompanied by an equally beautiful music video. Shot on Kodak 16mm and in collaboration with the iconic film staple, the video is a visceral companion to the track’s strong message. Pleading for stability in a world where it feels impossible, About You’s lead singer, Max, delivers a vocal performance that carries a million emotions—the strongest being hope.

Vulnerability is at the forefront of this track and this raw nature is conveyed through its intense production and sequencing. Meanwhile, the simplicity of the music video brings the focus back to the everyday minutiae, which holds more weight than we realize. Max is open about his mental health struggles, and his belief that the taboo nature of depression is a detriment to humanity shines in this artistic endeavor. In the song’s bridge, a happy-go-lucky piano is introduced along with beautiful strings, embodying the energy of someone who has decided not to give up hope.

On the purpose of the song, Max says, “I hope this song can be the same tether to Earth for others facing depression that it was for me. Everything you need to know about ‘God Don’t Let Me Lose My Mind’ is in the title - this song was a cry for help and community in a lot of ways.” One of the best ways to connect with people is through art, and this track, along with its accompanying music video, achieves exactly that and more.
