Alexandra Starr Is Her Most Unapologetic Self in Cheeky Single "Freakalicious"
Alexandra Starr is precisely that, a star. In her latest single, "Freakalicious," the independent DIY artist embraces her boldest, most unapologetic self, using cheeky lyrics and sultry production to encourage others to do the same, whatever that looks like for them. On the feel-good banger, she sets herself apart with her fearless approach to self-expression and her ability to create a unique, vibrant vibe that is both flirty and empowering.
The single opens with a steamy collage of warped synths and beats, with Starr playfully crooning over the cheeky production, "Like the way you're tempting me / And I like the way I might/ Make my thoughts reality / Baby do you catch my vibe?" On the pre-chorus, the instrumentation takes a step back for a second to let Starr's falsetto shine as she and her love cement their plans for the evening, building the tension to a climactic and dance-inducing hook.
"It's such a flirty, bouncy vibe," shares Starr. "I was in the studio with Slush Puppy and my friend Cami Petyn, and we were deciding what to write about, and Cami said, 'You just started seeing someone new, and you've been in a fun, flirty mood," and so I started thinking of the vocals alongside the beats and rhythms and 'so freaky, so freakalicious,' just kinda came out. 'Freakalicious' is just you being that girl, confident, sexy, fierce, walking in a room and just being that bitch."
Starr oozes confidence as she goes for what she wants on the sassy chorus, bouncy 808s, sparkling synths, and catchy, pop-infused instrumentation. "I'm still learning to be in my sexy era and dipping my toes into writing about stuff like this," the rising star adds. "I've always been someone who doesn't care what people think about me, but writing about and being open about my sexuality and owning it is a bit nerve-wracking and new. I'm excited to own it because everyone should in whatever way that looks like for them."
The emerging artist has been on her grind since 2021, with "Freakalicious" being the latest in a string of highly successful singles. "YFU," which went viral online for her fearless, and perhaps cringe, subway performance, and "heyy," which was used as a response to the online opinions circling the web. Starr's new track is just the beginning of a busy year as she embarks on big music and TV projects. "There's a huge project I was fortunate enough to be a part of — I can't share details yet, but it's something that's going open a lot of new doors!"
