As I begin my new chapter in 2024, it’s exciting to take a look around at the emerging next-generation talent around me. I feel a kinship for artists starting over or at the beginning of their new chapter because we’re just all flailing around, trying and doing everything to make careers happen in this Wild Wild West that is the music industry.
It’s a beautiful thing to be doing music and I pinch myself lucky to be given a chance to still be here myself. I released a song called “Roses” about love, resilience, and endurance through a trying season. I loved using the garden as a metaphor and the idea of planting seeds. If you nurture and take care of them, something beautiful may grow. So I wish nothing but roses for these emerging artists who I’ve been enjoying.
Rosie Rush
I went to a Medium Build show at the Troubadour where Rosie Rush was opening. There was a song she performed written about her mother that brought me to tears, her falsetto and guitar playing strikes you right in the heart. I’m dying for her to release music.
Juliet Ivy
Listen to: “we’re all eating each other”
"We're all eating each other" which is so good, I’ve never heard a song talk about the celebration of death. Her imagery of what we leave behind and pass on to the next generations to come is so beautiful. I really enjoy her project and I'm excited for what she has coming in the pipeline.
Anna Graves
Listen to: “Made To Love Someone”
I had the chance to write with Anna many moons ago, her voice is something to be reckoned with, she toes the line between folk and country.
Sarah Kinsley
Listen to “Last time we never meet again”
I love her whimsy and romance in all her music. Her free spirit roams in all she creates and it's a joy and inspiration to witness.
Debbie Dawson
Listen to “Turn The TV On”
Debbie is a breath of fresh air, she’s like a melting pot of classic artists like Dolly Parton, Abba, and Cat Stevens. You won’t regret going down a rabbit hole of watching her live performances online, I'm so inspired by how good she is at making her type of music.
