Ally Salort On Playing Her Dream Venue, Her Favorite Charlie Puth Songs, and More [Q&A]

Playing New York City's crown jewel, Madison Square Garden, is a dream for any rising star. That is, until the dream becomes a reality, which recently transpired for rising singer-songwriter Ally Salort. Opening for Charlie Puth at the iconic venue was sure to make a lasting impact on this star in the making, so we caught up with Ally to capture exactly how it felt to stand on such a defining stage:

OnesToWatch: What was your reaction to finding out you're playing MSG?

Ally Salort: I was freaking out, it’s been a dream venue for forever. I think a part of me didn’t believe it until I was actually there.

How did you put together your setlist?

I had help from my MD Tyler, he’s the best. We just got on a call one day and worked through it together, narrowing it down to just my core songs that would flow together and tell a story in 20 mins.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

I always think about some of the greatest experiences of my life and how much I stressed about them beforehand or even during, so I think I’d just say relax girl! Everything is going to go the way it’s meant to whether you’re worrying about it or not.

Favorite Charlie Puth song(s) you're most excited to hear?

I love hearing "LA Girls" live, "Beat Yourself Up", and "Empty Cups"

You've already released two singles this year, what is the through line between them?

Both talk about overall life themes as opposed to being centered around love or heartbreak which I think is cool. The first single I’ve Never Met Her is about the evolving relationship I have with myself and Finish Line is about learning to appreciate exactly where I am in life.

3 words to describe your next single:

Stripped, emotional, raw.

If you were to headline MSG, who would you want to open for you?

My sister.

At this moment, who are your OnesToWatch? Who are you listening to that deserves more attention?

I mean she’s kind of already blowing up but I love the artist Absolutely she’s incredible.
