Arlo Parks and Phoebe Bridgers Come Together For the Effervescent "Pegasus"

With a sophomore album, My Soft Machine, due out May 26 and a fall tour to follow, Arlo Parks is setting the scene for her next artistic chapter, teaming up with Phoebe Bridgers in the iridescent bedroom pop track, “Pegasus.”

Two reigning forces in the songwriting realm, Parks and Bridgers are almost too powerful at painting feeling and conjuring fragmented emotion. Their artistic values intersect at a crossroads of intent—both devoted to using indie pop and poetry as a medium for every shade of a heart’s expression, both showcasing yearning and solemn suffering.

There’s a distinction between lust and true love, a lover and a soulmate; “Pegasus” speaks to the latter, the rarity in finding someone who grounds you yet makes you feel like you’re walking on clouds. The song itself is sonic bliss and innocence, with its melody encapsulating the feeling of loving like you’re too naive to fear heartbreak. But the true magic of “Pegasus” can be partially attributed to the through and through fan Bridgers has in Parks. Having fallen in love with her music and seen pieces of herself in songs like “Funeral” and “Motion Sickness” since she was 17 17, she’s living every fangirl’s greatest fantasy: to be eye to eye with your idols and have them see themselves in you, too.

Bridgers once soundtracked Parks’ adolescence, and they now share a stage and fan base. Beyond a summer love anthem, “Pegasus” proves Parks has rightfully earned her up-leveling.
