Cailin Russo Revels in a Past Mistake in 'Declaration'

Los Angeles songstress Cailin Russo is back with the release of "Declaration." The follow-up to her 2018 debut EP, House With a Pool, arrives as an empowering anthem of honesty backed by fuzzy guitars, pulsating percussion, and booming basslines.

The track is a narration of past mistakes she's made as she candidly sings, "This is the declaration of a fuck-up / A product of how I was raised/ And I don't expect a single teardrop / Whoa, I am ashamed." The complementary video sees Russo drowning in a glowing green light as she literally washes the dirt off her faults clean. Near the video's close, Russo is marked by a bright red light, representative of the errors she perpetrated. Russo spoke further on the track, sharing,

"a fierce proclamation of a mistake from which I couldn't seem to escape. The song comes from that feeling where you almost reach the bottom and you have nothing to do but accept it, own it and let it run its course/"

Co-directed and edited by Ganna Bogdan, the producer adds, "working with Cailin was really fun! She had such a vision in this project. This song is a look into her emotional transition and how we sometimes try to run away from our problems." Feeling guilt, shame, and eventual acceptance surrounding her prior transgressions, Russo is laying it all on the line.
