Clara Le Bouar Pens an Ode to Platonic Love in "Silver"

French singer-songwriter Clara Le Bouar celebrates friendship and love with her latest single, "Silver." Aflutter on vintage rhythms and sung with a diaphanous melody, "Silver" is a brightly effervescent effort that carries the listener through the beauty of platonic love, a kind of love that grows stronger through every dream, heartbreak, and milestone.
The serene single is an ode to the singer's best friend and opens with a collage of retro-inspired, pulsating beats and warped vocals that give way to dreamy, breathy vocals. She croons over the ethereal production, "My beautiful flower, white silk, and laughter / I know you wish the future would hurry and come sooner/ Pretty girl in the mirror / Black lace and silver / You can cry on my shoulder/ we can laugh about it later." Throughout the rest of the track, she speaks to the highs and lows of their shared journey, highlighting the personal growth and the deep love and admiration that tie them together as they experience girlhood, navigate adulthood, and grow up side by side.
"'Silver' is more than just a song - it's a love letter to my best friend, written during one of the hardest times in her life," shares Le Bouar. "Through the lyrics, I tried to capture her essence and our journey together, portraying her as the beautiful, resilient, and irreplaceable person she is to me." She goes on to express, "She is my best friend, a designer whose signature style of white silk and leather is reflected in the lyrics. Lines like 'Pretty girl in the mirror, black lace, and silver' capture how I see her—elegant, resilient, and always adorned with her silver jewelry, a contrast to my gold. To me, she is like silver: luminous, strong, and precious."
"Silver" is Le Bouar's first project since the release of her 2024 record Songs, an intimate collection of seven tracks that began as late-night demos and was recorded alone in her Paris apartment. Written and self-produced on her laptop, the project, which was initially never meant for an audience, became a way for Le Bouar to process emotions, created in solitude without the expectation of ever calling herself an artist. The song titles reflect a quiet humility, with each song given a placeholder name, like "French Song," written in her native language, "Her Song," dedicated to her younger self, and "Last Song," capturing the final words of a breakup. What started as a way to downplay their significance became a comfort, allowing Clara to share her music without the weight of defining herself.
