Crooked Teeth And John Harvie Got A "Problem" On New Mosh-Worthy Single | THE NOISE

Cali-trio Crooked Teeth and fellow rising pop-punk star John Harvie kick hyper-masculinity in the face with the release of their latest single, "Problem." Anchored with cheeky lyrics and high-octane instrumentation, the single takes a shot at societal flaws, specifically when people resort to bitter, passive-aggressive behavior when faced with relationship fallout rather than being vulnerable and communicating in an attempt to set healthy boundaries.

The single opens with a pop-drive, melodic collection of 808 beats and understated, moody guitar riffs while frontman Tyson Evans paints a scene of boundaries crossed and bubbling anger. This seething tone juxtaposes the grit and angst of the explosive chorus. Fueled with cutting lyrics, attacking percussion patterns, fierce bass, and guitar lines, the band stands ready to fight. Harvie's presence in the second half of the track brings an added layer of bite, perfectly suiting the aggressive, don't-back-down nature of the mosh-inducing tune.

"'Problem'" started as a kind of funny, tongue-in-cheek way of writing a diss track for the haters," shared lead singer Tyson Evans. "When we went to make the video content, we wanted to deliberately take jabs at hypermasculinity and this sort of patriarchal trickle-down of turning to violence in times of disagreement or conflict."

The track will be featured on the band's upcoming album, which will be out sometime next year. According to Evans, "Problem" is his favorite from the forthcoming body of work and shows off the band's ability to seamlessly fuse pop, rock, and pop punk in their craft. "I had this riff cooking in my brain for almost a year and brought it to John Harvie and producer Andrew Gomez in Nashville during winter 2022," he shared. "We also wanted to pay homage to the pop-rock sensibility of early Kelly Clarkson while really driving a hard-hitting, headbang-demanding chorus, and I think we nailed this one right on the head."
