Daffo Reminds Us to Slow Down in Latest Single “Get a Life”

Back in March of this year Gabi Gamberg, otherwise known as Daffo, opened for Sir Chloe at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. They opened their set with a mysterious unreleased gem of a song and now months later, that track has finally been gifted to indie loving ears around the globe.

“Get a Life” is chock full of sentimentality. The track has all the makings of an indie rock hit—tender lyrics that hit you right in the gut, folksy guitars, earthy acoustic piano, and even spoons. The song features Gamberg’s homespun vocals that the young artist seems to be able to infuse with as much depth and breadth of experience as a wise old sage. “Slow down / If you look where you’re going, you might / Get a life full with every bite” is a lyric that feels like a breath of fresh air when the enormity of everything feels overwhelming. Daffo reminds listeners that life is meant to be lived and questions aren't always needed when the answers are already known.

The singer-songwriter, who has noted that songwriting is their most honest form of self-expression, has been on a roll since releasing their sophomore EP Pest almost a year ago, collaborating with other indie artists like Searows and Porches. “Get a Life” is seemingly Daffo’s first collaboration with producer Rob Schnapf, who co-produced Elliot Smith’s Either/Or, an album that Gamberg has dubbed a “perfect 10.” It’s a promising sign that this young artist is establishing themselves as a new indie staple.

Listen to our conversation with Daffo from earlier this year and catch them on tour with Illuminati Hotties, as they make their way across the US.
