DE’WAYNE And Lenny Kravitz Team Up On Remix Of “Highway Robbery”

DE’WAYNE’s reworked “highway robbery,” now featuring Lenny Kravitz, feels like more than a refreshed single. It arrives as both a collaboration and a statement of intent, blending rock, funk, psychedelia, and alt-pop in a way that feels natural rather than forced. Ultimately, the single examines the idea of love as something that overwhelms but also transforms, framing that experience as something chosen, where surrender becomes part of the joy rather than something to resist.

The guitars are the most immediate hook, especially in the chorus where they lift the whole track. Around that, the production stays lively but uncluttered, giving space for DE’WAYNE’s vocals to move freely. He shifts between a grounded tenor tone and lighter falsetto passages, adding small bursts of vibrato that give certain lines extra emotional weight. It never feels like showing off. Instead, it mirrors the instability at the center of the song’s story, where attraction and surrender blur into one experience and plays with the idea of love as something that takes you over, but willingly. The “robbery” isn’t framed as a loss, but feels closer to being pulled into something irresistible and choosing not to fight it.

The lyrics shift between grounded memories, like a first kiss in Toronto, and more surreal images such as flying pianos and spell-like attraction. That contrast gives the song its emotional texture. It moves between something personal and something almost dreamlike, without settling fully into either. Kravitz’s presence adds another layer without overwhelming the track, bringing a classic rock sensibility into the mix, which helps anchor the song’s more fluid, modern edges.

Of the song, DE’WAYNE proclaims, “‘highway robbery’ featuring the icon Lenny Kravitz is a rock ’n’ roll glam–inspired record born from a simple intention: put more love back into the world. In a way, it feels like my introduction. So… hello.”

Lenny Kravitz adds, “I first became aware of DE’WAYNE on Instagram and I was immediately drawn in to his expression. After I started following him, he reached out, and our conversations naturally grew into both this collaboration and friendship. DE’WAYNE is refreshing and dynamic and I am here to support a young black rock and roll musician.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Joe Mischo, extends that mood visually. Shot in California, it uses soft focus, saturated pastels, and low-light settings to create a hazy, in-between atmosphere. A motel washed in pink and blue, an old pickup truck, and nighttime performance scenes all build a sense of nostalgia without locking the video into a specific era. It feels more like a memory than a place.

In conjunction, DE’WAYNE will join Machine Gun Kelly on his extensive run of North American tour dates this summer. Additionally, DE’WAYNE will also embark on a run of international dates with Lenny Kravitz, which includes shows in Austria, France, Germany, Poland, Finland, Switzerland, Belgium, Hungary, England, and more.
