The past year I have been afflicted by a curious ailment that has left medical professionals confused and frustrated. Since Spring 2023, my sleep paralysis demons have been replaced by an annoying music fan complaining about how there’s no longer a bonafide “song of the summer.” For countless nights I’ve sat in bed wide awake, paralyzed in fear watching them coldly list off songs like “Kiss Me More,” “Call Me Maybe,” and “Bad Habit” while hearing them complain about the quality of music nowadays. This week, however, my disease has been cured. The solution? The newest release from Cash Cobain, Don Toliver, and Charlie Wilson, of course.

The following phrase is not up for debate: “Attitude” is the song of the summer this year. What Cash Cobain, Don Toliver, Charlie Wilson, and a Pharrell sample have managed to do on this track needs to be studied in a lab by the nation’s leading minds and cultural experts. Since it dropped late last week, I’ve been mimicking Pharrell’s’ “ooh!”’s involuntarily yet I have no desire to stop anytime soon. From the track’s thunderous bass signals to Don Toliver and Charlie Wilson delivering unparalleled chemistry, fans everywhere are left wondering, “When will Cash Cobain or Don Toliver miss?” The question is futile because it’s impossible, it would never happen.

“Attitude” is more than just the song of the summer, it’s a moment in music’s canon that represents culture more than any combination of words I can throw at this screen. Walking away I’m not sure what I’m more excited for; more music from Cash Cobain, or Don Toliver’s upcoming album Hardstone Psycho? Maybe it’s okay to want both and be a little selfish - after all, only a selfish person would imagine a world where the stars align on a track like this one. Whether you’re going to spend your summer inside with loved ones or outside in the club, let this be permission to get slizzy to “Attitude” until the cloak of Fall descends upon us.
