Grace Gardner and buffchick Have a Confession to Make in “Big Picture”

Grace Gardner, an independent singer-songwriter known for their heartbreakingly genius melodies and beautifully layered vocals, has collaborated with buffchick on their latest single, “Big Picture.” The song, both folk and soft-rock in typical Grace fashion, uses twangy guitar and explores queerness, specifically the struggle to confess love while fearing rejection.

Grace has spent the past few years on tour with Adam Melchor, Ella Jane, Juliet Ivy, and most recently, Frances Forever. Their sound seamlessly blends genres—undoubtedly due to their broad music taste and upbringing filled with various musical inspirations, such as their parents’ love for the 70s, southern folk from their hometown in Texas, and jazz from their few years in New Orleans. Additionally, Grace is an impressive jack-of-all-trades; in addition to their songwriting, they play ten instruments and produce their own music.

After a painful breakup with a straight man who dismissed their queerness, Grace found solace in an intense friendship. “Big Picture” sounds like a diary entry from this time, cathartic and incredibly honest.

Buffchick, another queer singer-songwriter who just released their debut album, showtime, beautifully blends their voice with Grace’s, especially in the chorus. “What if you wanted to cheat on your girlfriend? What if you asked me to buzz you in?” is a bold lyric, but the way the duo sings makes it sound less harsh; instead, it’s gut-wrenchingly hopeful, a feeling only clarified in the words that follow. “What if you told mе you'd take it all back and you feel the same way I felt in June?”

“Big Picture” follows recent releases of “Smaller” and “At Your Best” and is the final single before Grace’s next EP, After Knowing, releases in December.
