Gully Boys Take No BS on Latest Single "Mother" Ahead of Self-Titled LP | THE NOISE

Minneapolis four-piece Gully Boys celebrate their long-awaited self-titled debut, Gully Boys, with the release of their latest single "Mother." The fierce lead single sets a strong tone with its in-your-face refusal to tolerate disrespect, specifically aimed squarely at the men who still don't understand that 'no' is a complete sentence. No metaphors here, just a clear-as-day line in the sand, Gully Boys are 100% done with entertaining that sort of entitlement.

The single is a rager from the start, with the band kicking off the song with layers of driving percussion, thrumming bass lines, and thrashing guitar riffs. Lead singer Kathy Callahan's vocals burn with the intensity of a thousand suns as she belts on the hook, "Hey!/ What did you say to me?/ Would you say that to your mother?/ Hey!/ Try it again with me/You'll be a sorry mother fucker." There's a delicious fury that seethes through every line as the band demands the respect that they deserve from petulant adversaries. They deliver the hard truths to those who are only just now facing the "cold light of day," telling them to "Remember your manners/ Keep your hands to yourself/ That's not how we make friends/ Take your shit somewhere else."

The accompanying music video, directed by Mack Hastings, is a dynamic visual that follows the antics of a slimy talk show host, Tucker Van Grift, who pulls pranks on his exhausted staff and frustrated guests. The band, who were slated to be the show's original featured guests/performers, is nowhere to be found, leaving the unwilling cameraman Phil to fill in. After finally having had enough of the smarmy charlatan's shit, the crew ties Van Grift up and gives them a taste of their own medicine, with the cameras still rolling, of course.

According to the band, the upcoming debut is a fiercely honest portrayal of standing your ground and the most direct and confident version of the band yet, loud, tender, and fiercely honest. A full-body experience from start to finish, the record spans the recklessness of your early 20s to the hard-won wisdom you uncover a decade later. It's about protecting what matters: your friends, your city, your identity, and embracing the kind of peace that only comes from living through the fire.
