Headaches and Golden Vessel Find Perfect Harmony in 'Making Friends With the Space Around Me'

Collaborations are the perfect stage for artists to experiment with their sound. It can be a way to get out of a rut, grow, and step outside their comfort zone. Nowadays, an emerging trend is crafting full albums with an artist you vibe with instead of just a feature here or there. The beauty of such a collaboration is that it can elevate the sound of both artists and create something new and fresh, a sentiment heard fully in each of the eight new tracks from Golden Vessel and Headaches.

“I had gone on a bit of a hiatus from writing and creating, and actually wondered if I would ever release music again. But Max [Golden Vessel] helped to create an expressive and safe environment for us to just explore ideas together, with no pressure on there being a particular outcome," shares Headaches. "This album has underlying themes of letting go of control, being vulnerable and learning how to embrace your life. Being present in your body and environment, being honest with yourself and others, and trusting that things will work out how they need to. We tried to be honest in our lyricism and musicality, not overthinking the process and just letting things flow how they needed to."

In Making Friends With the Space Around Me, Golden Vessel and Headaches each bring their unique sonic palettes to the table, crafting an album that feels effortless and ethereal. Their symbiosis of style and energy is evident, pulling from the best parts of each artist and morphing them into a truly great album. This collaboration is a testament to their mutual appreciation and respect for each other's artistry. Every track contains a certain warmth that washes over you as you listen. Golden Vessel brings his signature downtempo electronic production to the table as Headaches overlays her otherworldly and tranquil vocals. The songs' themes center around letting go of control, which is precisely what is necessary to produce a genuinely collaborative offering.

The album, with its variety of electronic samples and soundscapes, creates a dreamlike feel that is both soothing and immersive. The track “Songs” features vocals from both artists and is a beautiful portrait of the two artists coming together in perfect harmony. The vocals complement each other perfectly, and the give-and-take we hear on the track tells us everything we need to know about how well these two talented artists mesh together. It’s impossible to say whether this album is a one-off or the start of something bigger, but with how Making Friends With the Space Around Me turned out, we're hoping there is much more ahead.
