It's Mad Tsai's World and We're Just Living in It

Having penned his first song at the age of 13, it's surprising that breakout artist Mad Tsai never intended to have a career in music. But, while many of us spent countless hours during the pandemic scrolling mindlessly through TikTok, Tsai was busy putting content out there for the world to enjoy. It didn’t take long for Tsai to start developing a very passionate fanbase, and now, a few viral hits later, the breakout artist is on a fast track to becoming a bonafide star.

With “mad’s world,” Tsai offers a fresh take on a queer pop ballad. It’s a carefully curated blend of genres, juxtaposing rock guitars and synths in the choruses with a piano-led swing in the verses. Gang vocals littered throughout the track add a fullness and energy reminiscent of a Broadway hit, and as the track progresses, you can see how skilled Tsai is at storytelling, giving us absolute main character energy.

Tsai's newfound limelight comes with a distinct opportunity to give a voice to those who struggle with acceptance and identity. “mad’s world” is a window into a journey through constant parental disapproval. Despite the success of his music, his parents view it as “a future gone to waste.” Mads also laments in the song, "If I had a normal coming of age, I would be the son they dreamed of every day.”

“mad’s world” is an encouraging word for anyone weighed down by the yoke of disapproving parents or the world at large. The track is a mantra of hope for listeners and a journey of healing and catharsis for Tsai, admitting, “I think all my music, in a way, is a part of me healing me inner child.” With an EP set to release later this year, don’t be surprised when Tsai becomes a household name because with each new single, Mad Tsai proves that it is “mad’s world,” and we are just living in it.
