Kenya Grace Eyes Up Another Smash Hit With the Wistful "It’s not fair"

The closest thing to a recipe for success in music is the combination of raw talent and hard work. South African-born British artist Kenya Grace is proving to the world that she is capable of both. After releasing a few drum-and-bass singles, last year she found herself with a smash hit in “Strangers.” It's a bonafide number-one song that took the world by storm, toppling releases from artists like Drake and Doja Cat. That’s phenomenal company for the young 25-year-old singer. It’s the kind of track that changes the trajectory of your life and puts your career in overdrive; Grace admits, “It's blown my mind how insane it's gotten.”

Since then, Grace has been working hard, embracing the stardom she's been launched into and learning to produce tracks on a higher and higher level. Fast-forward a year, she hits us with “It’s not fair.” It’s a track rooted in reminiscence, running through the memories of a past relationship. “It's not fair” highlights that although time heals all things, the landscape of your lives may have been permanently altered, and moving on doesn’t always mean forgetting. It’s a reminder that everyone processes the aftermath of a relationship differently, and the fallout of what once seemed like happily ever after is often unfair.

Grace’s voice is nothing short of angelic, a siren that entrances you upon hearing the first note. “It’s not fair” is crafted around an addicting groove that dares you to sit still. Her majestic voice and breezy melodies perfectly contrast the drum-and-bass 808. The layers of synths and vocals at the track's peak are trance-like, as if whisking you away from reality is the goal. It's easy to get lost in its beauty, all but guaranteeing you'll rush to press play one more time.

"It's not fair" arrives not just as a standout dance pop track but also signals Grace's forthcoming EP, The After Taste, out March 22 via Major Recordings/Warner Records.
