Kevin Abstract and Lil Nas X Turn Up the Heat in "Tennessee"

The unlikely duo who pair perfectly, Lil Nas X and Kevin Abstract team up for the deliciously braggadocious single “Tennessee,” the new anthem for every person unafraid to be a little obsessed with themselves.

After debuting the song live at Coachella earlier this month, we finally have “Tennessee” in our hands, which proved to be a crowd favorite for an electrifying staple performance.

Produced by Abstract himself, alongside Romil Hemnani, Devstacks, and Quadeca, there’s something deeply infectious about “Tennessee.” “I’m the God of my life like a sim” encapsulates the dharma of the uptempo trap track, an unconfined declaration of finding someone as attractive as you find yourself.

Gay, black, and bold, the accompanying "Tennessee" video is exactly what you’d expect from both openly queer artists. The Cole Bat-directed visual drops you into a subtle yet sensually tense world, with every shade of male vixen color-graded to the gods.

Something about this collaboration feels serendipitous. Though many may find it a surprise, it was actually a long time coming. the two acts have cited each other as inspiration before and even attended the same high school in Georgia before officially knowing each other. Both Abstract and Lil Nas X’s inability to be convinced they’re any smaller than the grandiosity of their respective brilliance complement each other perfectly. If we got a whole album worth of collaboration, the world might be a little bit better.
