Mimi Webb Closes the Door on Heartache with ‘One Eye Open’

It has been an eventful year for British singer-songwriter Mimi Webb, who released two sizzling pop singles, “Mistake” and “Erase You,” each striking chords of self-preservation and growth. These themes carry into the latter half of the year with “One Eye Open,” which builds on the strength of her previous songs to close the story arc of emotional revival.

Like rising waves headed to shore, the sonic ebbs and flows of “One Eye Open” blend soothing and crashing elements of synth embellishments, lingering bass plucks, and snapping snare hits. Webb flexes her vocal cords, giving each lyric the necessary emotion it deserves and lending each experience of love lost its due gravity and weight.

“You were somebody to me, somebody I loved easily / Somebody I believed, who wanted the best for me / You were somebody I could call, somebody I would lose myself for / And you wanted even more, you were somebody who took it all,” captures an experience as painful as it is instructive, with the music driving the message home.

Webb explains that “One Eye Open” is powered by a new “independent, self-love era” that resonates in the single, marking the end of mourning and the beginning of a newfound self-awareness for the artist. Each chorus cascades with a liberating force and explosive sounds, allowing listeners to share in the sentiments.

The emotion packed into each song has put Webb on the fast track to recognition, as she recently joined major acts like the Jonas Brothers on tour and appeared at high-profile events like Lollapalooza and Governors Ball. Webb’s music connects with audiences because the journey from hurt to healing is a universal one.
