New Friends Hit Their Mark With the Slow-Burning "Ricochet"

The frozen northern tundra—also known as Canada—has been plunged into a season of winter, darkness, and hibernation. This annual unavoidable tragedy isn’t stopping Canadian-hailing band New Friends from releasing their latest mesmerizing single, “Ricochet.”

New Friends is on a collision course with stardom. The band followed- up their ultra-viral sensation “Purple Candy” in glorious fashion by winning Slate Music’s ‘It’s Your Shot’ contest. Hot on the heels of an impressive prize that included studio time, New Friends is now on the verge of releasing their EP in early 2023.

“Ricochet” is a high-energy crowd-pleaser. The song is clever, walking a fine line between simping and serenading. It describes the numerous failed romantic attempts of an infatuated individual, brilliantly encapsulating obsession underneath a bow of well-worn irony.  And it certainly doesn't hurt that “Ricochet” is wildly catchy.

If you lack a certain someone to raise your temperature, this is the perfect solution for warming you up on a cold night, because it’s guaranteed to get you moving. The chorus is driven by a resounding chant that burrows deep into your brain, making it impossible to forget—much like that person you’ve been crushing on. The beauty of "Ricochet" is in its simplicity. It’s a great pop-rock banger built on guitars, drums, and vocals. It grabs your attention from the first beat and doesn’t let go. The song anchors itself in terrific melodies that are taken to the next level by lead singer Stefan Boulineaus’ impressive pipes. So, if you can’t turn up the thermostat any higher, then instead, reach for the volume and turn “Ricochet” all the way up.
