Pearly Drops & Night Tapes Find Magic in the Electric Rework of “Fade to Black”

Branching beyond their home of Helsinki, indie-electronic duo Pearly Drops (Sandra Tervonen, Jusso Malin) carry forth a bold, surreal lens in their sonic identity, capturing a striking critical introspection in the balance between fantasy and reality. Following the release of their third album, The Voices Are Coming Back last September, they return in a magical light with the release of “Fade to Black”, a slow-burn, nocturnal re-imagining of beloved single “End Credits.” A hidden gem from the LP, the track has been reworked and rebuilt by London-based ambient pop-trio Night Tapes, and in essence isn’t a remix, it’s a collision of two of the most distinct palettes in ambient-pop, trading a pulsating rhythm for an immersive cinematic haze.

On the synergy of this collaboration, Pearly Drops share: "We really feel like Night Tapes and Pearly Drops exist in different shades of a similar palette. It feels like we tap into a similar atmosphere, even though we’ve arrived there in our own ways… We actually first heard about Night Tapes through one of our fans years ago, and it instantly felt like there was a shared wavelength there.” The frequency is palpable; by stripping the production back, the result is an ethereal atmospheric blur. Driven by the richness of a pulsating rhythm, the rework carries the melody deep into the shadows of the audience’s psyche, cementing “Fade to Black” as a poignant expansion of a mesmerizing and magical project.

“Fade To Black” serves as the victory lap to a meteoric year for Pearly Drops, following a sold out North American debut tour that solidified their cult-favorite status. The duo is set to return stateside this summer, including a slot at Lollapalooza before joining Slayyyter on her Worst Girl in The World tour this September, marking them as one of the most essential acts to keep your eye on this year.
