Pop Star Seanna Pereira Has Entered the Conversation [Q&A]

With Britney Spears on indefinite hiatus, you’d think that pop music would start to fizzle out, but not true. Addison Rae, Tate McRae, and now Seanna Pereira has entered the conversation.

Seanna Pereira is not your typical pop star though. She is following in another huge pop star’s footsteps and that is Taylor Swift. Pereira, originally from Florida, shares the common sentiment in lyrics and storytelling similar to those of Swift’s. Her new single “Options” caters to that pop driven audience, but expect different sounds from her upcoming EP, which will be released in the coming months.

Pereira caught the acting bug first but is now branching out to her first love and that is writing and performing music. She started out acting in horror flicks as a child, but now her new song “Options” has the music scene a buzz. Now based in Los Angeles, Pereira is set to take on the industry if not the world. Her ambition speaks for itself.

We talked to the budding pop starlet about walking the tightrope of celebrity culture and music, the pop marketplace, and her new upcoming EP.

How did you get started in the business?

I started in the industry young at four years old. I got started performing mostly. I just wanted to act and sing for anyone. The first movie role was a horror flick called Ellwood at four years old. It was my first experience in the industry. From there I went to do child acting and more horror films. Songwriting was my first love. I did a lot of journal writing to express myself. It took a back seat to acting though. Acting was more my focus then. In the past few years, singing and songwriting became more of a passion of mine and wanted to share it with the world because it’s something vulnerable for me. I write my own songs so it is more personal and now at the age where I am, I am ready to be in the music industry.

Living in Los Angeles, do you think celebrity culture is over shadowing talent and even music these days?

I feel it’s difficult especially being in Los Angeles. It’s difficult to find that balance. I’m from Florida but when I moved to Los Angeles you can get sucked into that world. It’s very competitive and cutthroat. It’s been really important to surround myself with the friends that I’ve had in my life since I was young and keeping that balance. It rings true now, especially being a songwriter and choosing to share myself with the world. It’s important to find that balance between my personal life and what I want to share with the world. It can be tough. It’s something I am still working on. Everything is more social media focused now.

Acting or singing? Which would you choose and why?

That’s a tough question. I’m going to say singing and songwriting for now. I do love acting and it’s something I will always do as well, but I am more focused on the music right now.

Do you think the pop scene is oversaturated now?

It is difficult because so many people are trying to be musicians now. It is easier as well though for so many independent artists. It’s difficult to find your own lane. There’s Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, and it’s difficult to separate yourself, but at the end of the day hard work and talent does win. There is a place for everyone. Being a writer, I think people connect to the storytelling. I think people connect to Taylor Swift because they connect to her story and life and that is very individualistic. It’s difficult to be original, possible, but difficult.

Would you want to explore different sounds down the road in your career?

One hundred percent. I honestly grew up on Taylor Swift, Amy Winehouse, Christina Aguilera, etcetera. I love Adele and love a good ballad. There are so many different sounds that I have not explored and would love to. I think my upcoming EP shows different varieties and styles too. “Options” is more down the middle pop of the EP, but the rest of the EP has alternative and other different vibes. “Options” is not what the whole EP will sound like. I didn’t want to be confined to one genre or boxed in. I want to see what resonates with me and my audience.

Where did you get the idea of “Options” from?

The song is about finding your self-worth and self-confidence. I wanted something everyone can relate to, listen to, and love even though I want to get deeper and more vulnerable with the audience. I wanted something fun and give something people to dance to. It’s also about not settling for less than what you deserve---not just romantically but in life with your career and relationships. It’s a word I use so much I didn’t realize until I wrote the song. It’s about being unhappy and then finding different options to be happy and finding your authentic self.

Where did you get the idea for the video treatment?

My main thing was to keep it high fashion even though the song is fun and bold. I wanted to mesh the cool wardrobe and set design. I was a big fan of the movie Burlesque with the imprint of hands up on the screens. It was one of my favorite movies growing up.

Who is your dream collab?

I’d have to say Taylor Swift. I am very into her lyrics and storytelling.

What are your goals or expectations with the upcoming EP?

Honestly, this is something I love. I want it to be a project where people feel scene and heard. I’d like people to dance to, cry to, and laugh to the songs. If I can help only one person that’s all that matters. Music is so personal to me and it’s an outlet to express myself and my own feelings If I can share that with people and hopefully help them if they are going through similar things is a goal of mine.

Did you get any feedback with “Options” thus far?

People been loving it. It’s more of a fun pop dance record that I’d listen to if I’m getting ready go out with my girlfriends or driving in the car and blasting the music. It’s for everyone though. It has a lot of high energy.

Do you see yourself touring select cities or going nationwide?

First select cities and possibly opening for someone but I’d like to do it all.
