Rewind: Our 5 Favorite Music Videos of the Last Week

While it’s far too easy to lose ourselves in the deluge of new music releases that grace us every week, one thing that cannot and should not be overlooked is the art of the music video. With the heyday era of MTV long behind us, Rewind sees us taking a look back at a handful of our favorite music videos of the past week.

PRESENCE - "SCARED OF THE FALL!"

Whatever your religious beliefs, if you harbor them at all, the universe has a powerful way of balancing its highs and lows, and director Michael Smith visually paints a wonderful, Speilburgesque mini-movie on that narrative. In Presences’s latest single, "SCARED OF THE FALL!," that existential paranoia is warranted as he recounts one of the best days, set here, as a beautiful sun-kissed hilltop with a paramour, followed by a literal house party of ghosts crescendoing into a looped ending that may indicate our best AND worst days are but one. For a deep dive into our fears about loss, press above.

TOMMY CASH x bbbno$ - "TANGO"

As terrifying as the wave of AI-generated everything is, in the hands of a truly devious creative like Tommy Cash, the ability to insta splice your face on any moving image generates god-like powers. That power isn’t wasted as Cash isn’t shy about deploying them in the most surreal, living meme reality, a game show with no objective other than squirming. Paired with the equally irreverent bbno$, this is a must-watch trip into Eastern European central casting for oddity.

WESLEE - "Big Collide"

We always have time for great songs, and when paired with beautifully colored animations, we get positively geeked, even when a line like “to fall in love is suicide” stirs our stomachs. The video for "Big Collide," directed and animated by Agnes Xantippa, has a wonderful color palate centered around mauve and tells a story encompassing: nesting, nature, and the inevitable material, organic and emotional collisions that occur. To join this vibey color frenzy, look above.

GANGGA feat. Valentine Ploy - "Sweet Hurting"

Pairing beautiful voices in a cute romantic riddled video that has the artists singing in parks, pouring her records, and listening to music on old reel to reels, has us feeling a little love woozy. While not our normal fare, it's nice to see that the power of the duet isn’t dead entirely for newer artists, and credit to director Nafulal Fathurraham for making it look as poetic as it sounds.

SEMATARY - "WENDIGO"

If you want a near meta-comical witch house tune that feels like its filled with some BTS footage from the True Detective series, then this chainsaw-swilling chune is all for you. SEMATARY is comfortable burying nuance in fiercely out-of-focus, near-reclaimed footage quality visuals and somehow it's as ominous and dark as it is catchy and fun. Support even the oddest of the oddballs above.
