Riovaz's "Leaving You" Is an Intoxicating Dance Departure For the Rising Star

Though it's a crying shame, you would be forgiven for not knowing the name Riovaz. From woozy rap cuts to bittersweet amalgamations of bedroom pop and hip-hop, the young artist and producer has been steadily carving out a niche for himself in his own corner of the internet. But it's his latest single, a dance-forward departure, that has my full and undivided attention.

"Leaving You" is one of those rare tracks that you stumble upon and it feels akin to falling headfirst into a rabbit hole of repeated listens. Over an atypical club beat, Riovaz nonchalantly muses on moving on from a relationship with an infectious, carefree bravado that feels impossible not get swept up in. The succinct track, which doesn't even clock in at the two-minute mark, is a mesmerizing tour de force that utilizes the inherent repetition found in club music to its utmost potential.

The new single arrives following a busy year for Riovaz, which saw the release of a number of singles, including the 2020 viral hit "Prom Night," and his debut EP, Into the Unknown. While it's difficult to predict in which direction the enviable artist will head next, one thing is for certain. I'm all in.
