Sadye Makes Her "Biblical" Debut With Intoxicating Single

Alt-pop newcomer Sadye leaves her mark in her debut single "Biblical." Putting an edgy, angst-filled spin on the genre, the singer dives headfirst into narratives surrounding life's darkest moments tinged with hedonistic delirium, using earworm lyrics and punchy, sultry instrumentals to prove that the rising star is a force to be reckoned with.

"Biblical" opens with a collage of pulsing synths, strings, and breathy vocals. Sadye narrates how she's found herself stuck in a deeply troubling and toxic situation, using the melody to explore the idea of "Going back to someone you know is bad for you over and over again... I'm caught in this person's web, but maybe I know exactly what I'm doing." When she returns to this relationship, she mentally prepares herself for pain, hoping to "Take the bad / To get the good." Her wispy vocals echo over thundering bass lines as she sings, "Hurt me like it's biblical / Blind faith / I'm back for more / I can't leave it alone / Hurt me like you do."

The musician compares her experiences to those of a loyal disciple who follows an idol without question. Still, with Sadye, there's a twist—she knows exactly what's in store. Assuming a role akin to Judas, Sadye does not see herself as a victim. Instead, she's fully aware of the games at play, cunningly revealing that she has some tricks up her sleeve.

This first release from Sadye is a promising introduction to what will undoubtedly be just the beginning of her journey as an artist to watch. Inspired by her intense struggle with cancer, discovering self-worth, and dealing with toxic relationships, her lyrics are steeped in a painfully self-aware form of catharsis as she learns to love her literal and figurative scars, a theme beautifully juxtaposed by catchy, modern melodies and edgy pop production.
