Satellite Citi Want To Be Set Free On New Single "Anxious Hearts" [Premiere] | THE NOISE

Los Angeles-based hard rock duo Satellite Citi pull out all the stops on their latest single, "Anxious Hearts." The anthemic single tackles the pain and complexities of anxiety head-on, supported by driving instrumentals and raw and raging vocals.

The track opens by teasing the intoxicatingly catchy chorus supported only with quick, staccato guitar strums. It then launches the listener into a soundscape rich in dark, brooding bass lines, passionate vocals, and steady percussion patterns. On the booming hook, vocalist and drummer Anna Gevorkian belts, "Anxiety always taking over me/ When I try to fall asleep/ Heartbeat racing endlessly/ I’m suffering," begging to be set free by this seemingly inescapable state.

"We had the honor of co-writing 'Anxious Hearts' with some really incredible musicians, Taylor Carroll and Arejay Hale," shared Gevorkian. "The concept of overcoming anxiety is really a universal one, and lyrically, we were able to come up with a message that we felt could resonate with so many different types of people. In a world where everyone is so divisive, it feels necessary to write a song that cuts through all that."

The accompanying music video, directed by Rosie Geozalian, is a surrealistic, science fiction-esque visual that sets the story outside an isolated, fog-laden movie theater. As viewers enter the slightly dilapidated cinema, they go to their seats while wearing strange reality-warping goggles. Footage of the duo performing the track among mysterious, helmeted figures intercuts the increasingly bizarre footage, sending viewers deeper down the rabbit hole.

"We wanted to imagine what the future of entertainment and filmmaking might be like," shared Geozalian about the music video concept. "You already have the algorithm personalizing your feed. You have AR + VR experiences becoming more and more immersive. We imagined a future 'cerebral reality' experience that would be tailored to each person's fears and anxieties. You go to the theatre, and the cerebral reality glasses allow you to watch your own fears as a film — imagine exposure therapy as entertainment."

With over 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone, it's no surprise that Satellite Citi has returned with another successful single. "Anxious Hearts" was co-written by Lit's Taylor Carroll and Halestorm's Arejay Hale and produced by Mike Plotnikoff (My Chemical Romance, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach). The band has more exciting news on the horizon, revolving around new music and even a comic book that will accompany their subsequent releases.
