Sawyer Hill Delivers an Impassioned Plea in “Need Me Now,” Announces Debut EP

A voice in motion naturally carries grit. This is the case with Sawyer Hill, whose new single “Need Me Now” booms with his signature weighty-luxe vocal tone, ushering in a song that only the road could write. Glazed with hot-honey-sweet melodies, the composition strikes a perfect balance, as stomping drums, bass, and piano chords collide like molten lava at the foothills of each verse and chorus. If the song feels like something syrupy you can’t help but admire, it is because that is exactly what it is.

Hailing from Fayetteville, Arkansas, Hill is no stranger to life on the move. With tour stops resuming March 21 at Club Dada in Dallas, TX, he has propelled himself beyond internet fame to become a must-see attraction. In “Need Me Now,” he tells the story of a love in embers, flickering back to life at the softest gust of wind. There is an undeniable ache in each lyric, a rawness in every sticky phrase of the song. Gritty and luxurious at the same time, Hill thrives in the duality of high-end and thrift, refinement and rawness, making his sound and his presence feel entirely novel.

"You hold me close / Just to hold me down / You say you hate me / But you need me now / You're outside waiting / With the windows down / You said it's over / But you're here right now," he sings. These lyrics glide across a reimagined style of rock, sandy and grainy, steeped in the atmosphere of hole-in-the-wall bar treasures you never stop visiting or recommending. When the electric guitar solo rings out, passing casually before the song’s bridge and again near the end, it feels like an invitation, an artist beckoning you to discover a new favorite track.

As his anticipated debut EP, Heartbreak Hysteria, approaches its April 18 release, Hill’s social media following continues to bubble up, and the accolades are sure to follow. In 2022, a clip of “Look at the Time” first placed him on the radar. Today, he holds the compass, steering toward his biggest year yet with all the bravado of a road-hardened musician who knows exactly where he is headed.
