Sawyer Hill Takes Aim At The American Dream With Single “Jimmy’s Gone Numb”

Ready to wake up from the American Dream? Sawyer Hill’s new single, “Jimmy’s Gone Numb,” has got you covered.
Blending old-school country and blues elements, the Arkansas native follows in the footsteps of the stars of the Outlaw Country movement with a concise commentary on the state of our union. The song’s main character was “raised on corn and amphetamines // and he had dreams” that his father encouraged. However, as Hill notes, “Some have dreams // some wake up.”
Jimmy is overwhelmed by medical bills, rising prices, and the knowledge that the American Dream he was promised by “Uncle Sam and his daddy” isn’t within his reach, “so he stumbles home and he gets real high.”
Hill’s baritone voice delivers the message with the kind of detachment that is typical for Gen Z; while the 26 year-old knows what he’s singing is an American tragedy, he also seems to shrug it off. When the world’s been burning your whole life, what’s a little economic hardship on top of that?
Catch Hill in concert this summer! The singer-songwriter has performances planned at the Outside Lands and Bourbon & Beyond festivals.
