Sky Ferreira Finally Returns With "Leash," Announces 'Masochism' Album For 2025

The year is 2024 and we’re hesitant but ecstatic to declare that Sky Ferreira is back. Her first release as an independent artist, “Leash,” coincides with the upcoming A24 film Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson. After teasing a comeback in 2022 with her single “Don’t Forget,” this time it feels like Ferreira is officially signaling a new era for her music and career. Alongside the new single, the cult star announced news of her sophomore record Masochism, to be released in 2025, which, after 12 long will follow the release of her beloved debut record Night Time, My Time

Ferreira has been open about her creative process and how she takes her time with music, sometimes to a fault. With “Leash,” the deadlines set by studio execs made the process a little less drawn out and pushed the indie sleaze visionary to be less precious with her work. The result is a celebration for fans, a classic Sky Ferreira track that achieves her characteristic, inimitable balance of delicacy and grit.

Swaying between her signature drone and her iconic belting, she muses on the push and pull of a relationship doomed from the start, reflecting the carnal nature of the film. As she sings, “Why does leaving you mean leaving me,” the palpable pain of the lyrics sinks its teeth into the listener, drawing us further into Ferreira's new era and the world of Babygirl.

After declaring to Rolling Stone, Zane Lowe, and more that Mascochism can be expected next year, we’re taking her word for it with loving hesitancy. At least for now we have “Leash”, an absolutely amazing addition to her iconic, timeless discography. Here’s to more Sky Ferreira in 2025!
