Suki Waterhouse Reignites an Old Flame in "Wild Side"

They say the present has no texture; it is not until moments become memories that we color them in with deep, reflective hues of blues, red, yellow, and every color our emotional palette affords us. And often, nowhere does this notion ring truer than when reminiscing on love and its ensuing downfall.
"'Wild Side' is about recognizing each other’s past, the beauty and the fear that comes in reminiscing about who you used to love,“ eloquently states Suki Waterhouse when speaking about her latest entrancing single. The emotive effort from the singer, songwriter, and actress, provides not just a further glimpse into Suki's highly-anticipated debut album, I Can't Let Go, set to release May 6, but offers a self-reflective portrait of a transfixing songwriter caught in the throes of looking back and moving on.
Neither spiteful nor saccharine in its romantic intent, "Wild Side" is a nuanced look at one of music's and life's most prevalent tropes - "the crazy ex." "When you got that ex who's crazy / They're always running through your mind / Remember when we had a wild side," sings Suki in a smoky tone that evokes all the intimate mysticism of a stranger sharing their life story with you in an unnamed bar on the outskirts of Joshua Tree. And as Suki momentarily gives herself over to the idea of revisiting an old flame, "I wrap my world round yours again / I know I'll be the one that ends up hurt," we are only left with an intoxicating mixture of wistfulness and self-realization. A lingering battle between heart and mind.
In addition to the new single, Suki Waterhouse will be supporting Father John Misty from July 31 to October 8 and will be embarking on her own headlining tour this spring.
