10 Questions With dearALICE [Q&A]

In the not too distant past there was a time when boy bands ruled the earth and the airwaves, but while maintaining the once choreography and heartthrob looks, dearAlice is sonically very a much updated group. On their EP dancefloorKILLA the name suggest very much the intentions of the records, a collision of dance tempos, hiphop delivery and hints of r&b melody. The results are a fun record to bridge the gap with younger siblings, and enough grit to keep you keen as well during the family danceoff. Wanting to check in on these rhythmic rabble rousers we dropped into their inbox to find out more:
1. Who is ‘dearALICE?’
dearALICE is British band consisting of four members, Dexter, Blaise, Olly and Reese, who make k-pop inspired music that you can’t help but wanna dance to and blast on some huge ass speakers.
2. More importantly, which one of you is the real dancefloorKILLA?
Oooo well i think the ‘real’ DFK is our combined dancing soul as a four. Either that or Blaise.
3. But also besides shaking ass, what is dancefloorKILLA all about?
Just shaking ass really. Haha only joking, our new EP has a TON of influences from all sorts of music we love and listen to, making each song unique but still definitively a dancefloorKILLA track. You’ll have to listen to it yourself to see the differences between them all but overall it’s a fun dance heavy EP that will blast your eardrums.
4. Any collaborators or features? Who produced the EP?
Theres a large of list of people who helped and we got to work with to produce on DFK. We also managed to get Enola Bedard and Sweet Revenege on our first single back ‘Body On’. There’s so much more to DA than just us four.
5. Describe your music as color / activity / place.
As a colour like an old school game boy green. For a place any dystopian cyberpunk esc mega city, feel this is projected in our artwork and videos. Along with that, for an activity, we’d say our music for this EP reflects a 90s street race through that very city. Adrenaline rushing, bright lights and fast movements. I think that encapsulates it pretty well.
6. Besides this excellent EP what else should we be on the lookout for?
We have a tour at the end of October! We will be at Birmingham, Manchester and London performing the new EP and more. Plus we have a ton of meet and greets in the run up to it. After that, we can’t reveal much but keep your eyes peeled !
7. Take us on a group date: where do we go? What do we do?
Okay. We start at some funky bar around 7.. maybe it’s an arcade too or has some crazy live music. Something fun to ease into the night. Then we have dinner, which communally has to be Italian cause it’s all Reese will eat. And then to finish off we go to club and dance till 3am. Maybe a kebab to finish the night.
8. Whats inspiring you right now outside of music?
Fashion right now is just getting more and more experimental along with the digital art out there. That’s had quite a heavy impact on us and this next EP.
9 .Food group / activity best suited to enjoying your work?
Who can say no to a good night out. Anything with heavy music, a dark venue and a couple drinks.. we are there!
10. Musically who is new but making all the right moves? Who are your current OnesToWatch?
Everything new in the k-pop scene right now feels so fresh and new. Cortis have a pretty big influence on us and we can’t wait to see where they go next. Worth saying Katseye too, they are always changing things up. Oh and Full Circle Boys have some crazy choreography everyone should go check out !
