Rising Toronto-based artist ThxSoMch has delivered yet another banger with the release "Crumbled." The single is a dark, dreamy blend of post-punk and hyperpop elements that transports listeners into a world full of suspense, persistent percussion and bass, catchy, nostalgic guitar riffs, and biting lyrics.
"Crumbled" opens on a lowkey note, with a comforting wave of warm, buzzing guitar riffs ushering listeners into the carefully crafted world of ThxSoMch. The pace begins to pick up with the introduction of poppy percussion and sonics reminiscent of The Cure. The singer's raspy vocals paint a story of heartbreak, using melancholic verses to build up into a chorus full of goosebump-inducing, scream-singing, and brooding instrumentation. He laments seeing his former lover with someone new, singing, "Last night, you looked so content / That's why / I crumbled again / Last night, last night, last night, last night / Yeah, you looked so good with him."
The accompanying music video, directed by frequent collaborator Tommy Killjoy, is a fast-paced, cryptic piece of visual storytelling that follows the artist as he goes down a dark rabbit hole into madness. It opens with a montage of glitchy footage, including scenes of dark, wooded areas and a mysterious woman, before the video cuts to a day in the protagonist's life. The retro, VHS-style footage sees him getting ready for the day and leaving his apartment for a full day of what seems to be stalking a woman and her boyfriend. Scenes of blood-soaked hands, hooded figures in the woods, and butcher knives in the middle of the night flash in and out of the main storyline, with the tension reaching an explosive breaking point that you just need to see.
The latest single is from the artist's anxiously awaited debut EP Sleez, set to release May 17. The eight-track body of work will include ThxSoMch's previously released singles "Hate.," "Keep It Tucked," and "Caroline," as well as his breakout hit "SPIT IN MY FACE!." The Platinum-certified track, which was released in the fall of 2022, has taken the world by storm, amassing over 330 million streams and charting on the Billboard Hot 100.
