Trousdale Releases Soulful Lead Single “Growing Pains”

One thing Trousdale can always promise is a dynamic break from an otherwise mundane day. The band consists of three powerful women: Quinn D’Andrea, Georgia Greene, and Lauren Jones. They joined forces while studying at the University of Southern California, abandoning their plans to pursue solo careers. Named after the main pedestrian vessel at USC, Trousdale Parkway, the three girls center female friendship in everything they do.

Their latest single, “Growing Pains,” opens with a vibrant electric guitar riff and drum beat as they depict the trials and tribulations that accompany growth. The first verse captures the essence of the track perfectly. “I'm proud of how far I've come / But there's a long, long way to go,” sings Trousdale.

Desperately, they plead, trying to avoid burnout, singing, “Tryna build up the muscle / So the hustle doesn't pull me down.” After a whirlwind two years, the band can feel the exhaustion catching up to them. “‘Growing Pains’ is about living the dream while acknowledging that the dream can be pretty hard sometimes,” Jones revealed in an interview.

Though the average listener might not understand the specific burnout Trousdale’s members are facing, we’ve all been there, knowing we’re seconds away from overdoing it. Listeners are quickly transported back to their high school days filled with chores in their family homes, running the mile in gym class, and partying on a Friday night. All three voices harmonize through the discomfort. “And I know that I should (I should) / Be seeing all the good (Ooh) / But it's all work and it's no play and there's too many growing pains,” they sing.

Though they struggle to center optimism lyrically, their anthemic voices and rhythm uplift listeners. In “Growing Pains” and throughout their discography, Trousdale holds femininity and fun close. From their colorful, ABBA-style outfits on every album and single cover to their joyful energy, Trousdale not only inspires every person who interacts with them with their lasting positivity but also distinguishes themselves in a saturated music industry.

It’s hard to pin down the band’s genre. Melding pop beats with country harmonies and folk instrumentation, Trousdale truly is one of a kind. “Growing Pains” marks the first glimpse into their sophomore album of the same name, set to release on April 11. This single proves the band has officially solidified their sound and mastered their female country, pop, folk, indie hybrid identity.
