Wilder. Release Sun-Soaked Music Video For “Hang Up” [Premiere] | The Noise
Cali indie rock band Wilder. capture the bittersweet beauty and vibes of late summer in their new music video, "Hang Up." On this track, the Long Beach band, comprised of Stephen Ramos and Nick Sturz, continues to learn valuable lessons using failure, success, and perseverance to grow into the band they are today and the band they hope to become.
In classic Wilder. fashion, "Hang Up" is full of upbeat, infectiously melodic guitar riffs and instrumentals and resemblant of the Southern California aesthetic from which it was created. Yet, despite this sunny sonic disposition, the single's underlying lyrical story talks about being stuck in a constant cycle of not feeling creative in music.
"'Hang up' is about releasing all of the negative thoughts that cloud up your mind," shared the band. "There was a period in time where it was really hard to be creative and dedicate the time to write music. With everything that was happening in our personal lives and having to work a full-time job, the song is a self-reflection about pursuing a career in music." Hang Up evokes emotions of resolve and looking forward to the future. The bold and spacious production can hopefully spark a feeling of adventure and wonder for what's to come.
The accompanying music video for "Hang Up" follows the duo as they go about their day in Southern California. The video opens with sweeping shots of the duo watching the sunset and skating through the streets of Long Beach. "For the music video, we really just wanted it to feel like a "day in the life" of Nick and I," explained Ramos. "Almost like a mini-documentary just capturing who we are and things we like to do when we aren't playing music."
The music video ends with intercutting clips of the band performing the track to a crowd of fans and clips of them walking the beach with their skateboards in hand. "We wanted to pay homage to where we are from (Long Beach, CA), so we thought it best to include some of our favorite spots in the city in the video."
