YUNGBLUD Joins Forces with Bring Me The Horizon's Oli Sykes For Rousing New Single “Happier” | THE NOISE

While England has continually proven to produce hitmakers in the metal and punk scenes, they’ve also possibly cooked up the next best modern rock duo. On the rousing new single “Happier,” rebellious alt-rocker YUNGBLUD teams up with Oli Sykes of Grammy-nominated rock band Bring Me The Horizon.

Opening with an upbeat, electronic instrumental, “Happier” contrasts an allegro tempo and major key with somber lyrics. In the first verse, YUNGBLUD sets the tone for the song as he sings, “I need you more than ever / Don’t let me die / I need you more now.” As the song progresses, the young songwriter remains true to his reputation of fiery outspokenness as he addresses the fear of overcoming depression and roadblocks stopping the recovery process.

For the third verse of the song, Bring Me The Horizon’s beloved frontman takes over to deliver lyrics that highlight how sometimes even when people reach out for help their cries can land on deaf ears. “So why’d you have to hide? / I need you more than ever / Don’t let me die / I need you right now.” As the duo come together, Sykes delivers impactful screams in tandem with YUNGBLUD’s vocals singing “No I’m not broken / I’m just to be scared to belong here / Scared to be happier.”

Detailing the inspiration of “Happier” YUNGBLUD said, “I have almost been conditioned by myself my whole life to be in pain. When I’m in pain I work better. I function better because I have something to combat. It’s dark but it’s all I’ve ever known. The feeling of happiness is scary because you feel like it’s all about to go wrong. I have always felt that if I’m happy I’ll get complacent so it’s lost me a lot of opportunity for friendships and relationships in the past.”

Laying his wounds bare, YUNGBLUD continued, “I got really emotional when writing this. I was craving another YUNGBLUD song that would burn in my stomach, make me feel like it’s all gonna be okay, encourage me to fight back against old habits and try my best to realign myself to be better. It’s okay to find happiness, it’s okay to feel it. I hope you find a little bit of it in this song. You deserve it. Everyone does.”

“Happier” marks the duo’s second collaboration following the massive 2020 single “OBEY.” While YUNGBLUD’s aggressive and unleashed performance on the Bring Me The Horizon track might have been a surprise to the punk-rock singer’s fans, YUNGBLUD has been open in past interviews about how the music of Bring Me The Horizon saved his life while growing up. For the artist who has undoubtedly become a voice to Gen-Z, this continued collaboration promises a fresh new era of the genre, creatively and sonically.

YUNGBLUD will be joining Bring Me The Horizon on their world tour in Asia kicking off on October 29.
