Brendan Bennett Debuts a Party Anthem For Our Pockets with  "Rich Friends" [PREMIERE]

Finally, a song for ballin' on a budget. Brendan Bennett's "Rich Friends" is an ode to the time in life when no one has money, but they end up spending it anyway. Though he may only be 21, Bennett is a rising artist, songwriter and producer with a distinct twist on pop. Based out of Southwest Florida, Bennett is known for his close association with up and comers Nate Traveller and Eddy Rock, not to mention highly esteemed producer Capi, who has also produced for Dominic Fike. 2018 saw him release his Pop Tracks & Love Songs project, which is one of the most underrated releases of the year in our opinion. Simply put, his latest single is unadulterated fun.

Everything about "Rich Friends" sounds indulgent, from the decadent production to the lavish vocal processing. Pitched up chops chase the chorus, settling in between the deep groove of the song and daring the listener not to dance. Between bass-heavy production, Bennett sings,

"Spent the weekend in the same outfit, this jacket cost more than my bank I bet. But damn I look good that's what this about, who cares if I live at my parents house?"

The element of humor in Bennett's writing is refreshing, especially considering their combination with a genre that focuses on an unrelatable level of wealth. How many college-aged kids actually spends their weekends on yachts or buying out clubs, let alone buying engagement rings for their six best friends?

Bennett commented on the playful meaning behind "Rich Friends,"

"I wanted 'Rich Friends' to be a party anthem for our pockets. A tribute to all the times I got a paycheck Friday morning and spent it all the same night. It was really inspired by our fascination with flexing money that isn't ours - hitting clubs, posting pictures in nice cribs, wearing a friends watch. Justifying it by saying, 'but I'll be rich soon.' It's just a fun song, hopefully one that can make people laugh at themselves, and stop taking everything so seriously."

Remember that the next time your Instagram feed is making you feel inadequate. Brendan Bennett is sure to release more pop magic soon, but in the meantime, give "Rich Friends" some streaming love.
