Aidan Bissett Delivers an Impassioned Earworm in "Sick"

For better or worse, we look for a lot of things in other people—a reflection of ourselves, a place to foist all our ideals and expectations, or simply a moment of calm in the storm. In his latest anthemic single, Aidan Bissett opts for the latter, finding a moment of reprieve from the world around him in the heart of another.

“Sick” follows on the heels of equally heart-churning singles “Bloom” and “Out of My League,” each of which served to showcase a new side of the multi-faceted rising artist. In his latest effort, Bissett opens up with the effortlessly cool delivery of an early Julian Casablancas, pairing the indie rock charm of The Strokes with his own fevered delivery to craft an irresistible cocktail of overflowing emotions. “I’m sick of gettin’ drunk / Sick of havin’ fun / Sick of everyone, except for you,” sings Bissett in an ear-worm chorus that defies its melancholic roots. The result is a track that walks the thematic tightrope of sweaty, underground NY club and radio-ready indie pop anthem.

The new single arrives alongside a music video directed by Brooke James, who also helmed the videos for his two previously-released singles. The video features Bissett detached from his friends atop a scenic hillside, capturing the emotional exhaustion of the underlying track. The new single and video also arrive ahead of the rising artist’s appearance at Lollapalooza this summer and first-ever headline fall tour.
