LA-based alt-pop duo BETWEEN FRIENDS show their love and affection in their latest single, "Haircut." Teaming up with fellow rising star Bakar, the newfound group delivers a passionate performance packed with heartfelt lyrics and candid, personal reflections that complement the track's overall sunshine-evoking production.
"Haircut" opens with a whimsical countdown that catapults the listener into a world full of sun-drenched guitar riffs, charming vocal harmonies, and poppy percussion. "I cut my hair for you / You know I can't go without you, I said it / I'd do it again if you'd like me to," Savannah sings on the short and dulcet track, alluding to her eagerness to preserve a blissful romance. Every element of the song has a chance to shine with playful synths and guitar riffs supporting Bakar and Brandon's warm and robust vocal delivery and ad-libs.
The accompanying music video mirrors the feel of the song, following the siblings as they spend the day in the woods on a bright summer day. During their day in nature, the duo bides their time hiking the trails, playing guitar amid the towering trees, and dancing by the lake. Although it's a simple concept, viewers can't help but smile at the carefree visual and wish they could join in on the fun.
"Haircut" is the latest of a string of dynamic singles released throughout the year, including "Bruise," the Teezo Touchdown-assisted "Redlight," "What's up," and "Smiley," which all be featured on BETWEEN FRIEND's upcoming debut album, I Love My Girl, She's My Boy. The highly anticipated album is a project ten years in the making, with a title inspired by a quote from one of Savannah's exes. According to the band, their debut album is set to be their most vulnerable release to date, a retrospective of past relationships and lessons learned in love. Across the album, BETWEEN FRIENDS reflect on various real-life experiences and scenarios, facing reality head-on and embracing the often challenging aspects of life. Despite the subject matter, the album's sonic palette will be consistently bright and energetic, taking a nod from '90s teen movie soundscapes.
