Brooke Alexx’s debut album Big Mouth is the bold and bubbly narrative of a woman finding herself in her twenties. Told through the most delectable of ear candy melodies, Alexx has worked her songwriting magic to turn sitcom-worthy stories into a powerhouse of modern pop.

There’s a spectrum of life experience woven into Big Mouth, from universal insecurities to hyper-specific kinships like on “All My Exes’ Moms.” This lead single is the perfect gateway to Alexx’s raunchy writing style, coloring a pristine pop world with hits of provocative lyricism. There’s also “Super Famous,” the perfect album opener as it embodies Alexx’s symbiotic pairing of defiance and sincerity in an arena-worthy track.

“Move to LA (I Don’t Wanna)” is a standout track – both sonically and in what it stands for. A descending, picked electric guitar boasts an Olivia Rodrigo-type beat, full of infectious confidence. Alexx goes on to tell a story most aspiring artists will find familiar, about the constant pressure from the industry and society to uproot your life for your career. In more ways than geographical location, the constant criticism that comes from an artistic career can be grueling, yet Alexx has turned the hardships into an empowering pop anthem.

“Seriously” compliments these spunky tracks with a moment of stark vulnerability. Brooke Alexx unveils the grief that comes with responsibility, a side of growing up that often comes without warning. The delicate piano ballad builds into a soaring landscape of percussion, shrouded in a gauzy curtain of background vocals. Donning her best Avril Lavigne-meets-90s-romantic-comedy, Alexx turns up the heat for “Hot Like You.” The guitar tone drives straight to the front of the mix, adding a noted intensity to Brooke’s masterfully catchy melodies.

The final two tracks of Big Mouth showcase the tender underbelly of this technicolor album. While the meat of the record is made of gutsy hooks and cheeky twists on past stories, “Stepping Stone” questions the future, wondering if Alexx will find love again or remain a “stepping stone” for an ex. Then, “First Time” spins this anxiety into gratitude, as she sings, “You’re to blame, I’ll never be the same / I thought love was a myth /You showed me what it should bе like.” Brooke Alexx leaves listeners with the comfort that even when the heartbreak lingers, it’s a reminder of the love that’s existed in your life, and the ones that are yet to find you.
