chloe moriondo is closing out the summer with a bang, releasing her latest track "Fruity" as a sneak peek into her upcoming sophomore album, Suckerpunch, set to release October 7. The rising genre-skirting pop star has an unforgettable sound with a creative vision to match; just this year, nineteen-year-old moriondo has seen huge success with tracks like "Hell Hounds" and a spring tour accompanying mxmtoon. With their upcoming release coming to us via Fueled by Ramen, nineteen-year-old moriondo is sharing space on a roster alongside some of the biggest names in music like Panic! At the Disco, Paramore, and Twenty One Pilots, and more.
A single listen to "Fruity" will have you counting down the days to October, but moriondo confirmed fans’ excitement by adding that “‘Fruity’ and this album in general are going to be a slap in the fucking face!! I liked the idea of naming the album for something that means an unexpected hit—something you never saw coming.”
While the hyperpop space seems to have exploded over the last few years, moriondo puts their own spin on this infectious genre by sharing personal stories through the lens of a Gen Z, digital age-bred pop persona. In "Fruity," they gush about the overwhelming feelings that come from a happy relationship, singing, “Says I'm sweeter than a cherry and she likes it / Stay up late and watch the strawberry sunset / Got me fuzzy like a peach and its pit-less out tonight / Are you down to ride?”. The accompanying music video, directed by Raúl Gonzo, is a colorful, dichotomous, and somewhat nostalgic take on rejecting the social constructs of life, work, and love, in exchange for fully experiencing and expressing our feelings.
