Like most of us, spoken word poet and R&B singer Christinna O is dealing with some things. In her latest song, "Hot Head", The Philadelphia-based artist expresses some of the revolving emotions as a result of having bipolar disorder. On the chorus, she sings, "If I don't bite my tongue / don't clench my teeth / promise you will listen to me." As a queer black woman in the world, it is harder for her to be listened to and to be taken seriously.
Speaking on the song, she says,
“‘Hot Head’ expresses how hard it is to speak and be heard for your truths, especially as a Black woman, as a queer Black woman, as a Black queer woman who lives with mental health obstacles. ”'Hot Head’ is a mouthpiece for my often held rage. This song meets me at the fork in the road, with the option of imploding or getting it all out.“
Christinna O delivers her honest and soul-piercing lyrics with considerate conviction. We are happy that she is getting her rage out because it translates into some beautiful music. Listen to "Hot Head" below.
