Like deep-bodied wine and candlelight, d4vd and Kali Uchis are a perfect pairing on the sultry love ballad, “Crashing.”
d4vd’s ascension has been nothing short of honest and organic. Not interested in playing into gimmicks, he’s simply released the music that’s lived in his soul and amassed an international following from it, going from recording in his childhood closet on an iPhone to electrifying stages across the globe.
“Crashing” is the latest to emerge from the 19-year-old’s hopeless romantic mind. It’s an outpouring of desire, an ode to the kind of connection that defies both time and sense. Uchis deepens the poetic love letter with her timeless elegance, matching d4vd’s high as she sings to the addiction of being truly seen. Trapped within the red strings that keep two lovers connected long before their paths cross, its accompanying music video sets a lustrous tone for the single.
Though the collaboration may come as a surprise for fans, it was only a matter of time. Uchis shared d4vd’s viral single “Here With Me” in 2022, seemingly approving of his inauguration into the pop-R&B realm. This prompted d4vd to write “Crashing” with the Grammy nominee in mind, editing it on Bandlab in his bedroom closet. Once Uchis heard the song, she fell in love with it, penning her verse. “Kali has been one of my FAVORITE artists for so long,” d4vd gleams. “I’m honored and blessed that we were able to collaborate on such a beautiful song.”
The single offers listeners a glimpse into d4vd’s upcoming album, WITHERED, due April 25. The project is set to be a journey through a rose’s natural lifespan, from fragrant to wilted. Speaking on the life he’s poured into the project, d4vd writes via Instagram, “This album means SO much to me you have no idea the blood sweat and tears that came with trying to create this project over the past 2 years. Constantly starting over and over and over until there was nothing left on this audio landscape of a canvas than thoughts, melodies, and emotions that were unequivocally me.” A devotion to love lost, love found, love created, and love destroyed, WITHERED is set to ascend d4vd’s already lucrative career to new heights.
