Debbii Dawson Swoons Between Her Head and Her Heart on "Chemical Reaction"

As summer temperatures begin to rise, Debbii Dawson is feeling the heat. Her latest single “Chemical Reaction,” details the classic push and pull between head and the heart, before ultimately giving into the pull of feelings of attraction.

Dawson immediately tries to convince herself that she doesn’t want a relationship as she sings “Way too busy to want to be in love / Don’t have the time for something so frivolous / What’s pulling me to you baby I don’t know / Chalk it up to those funny pheromones.” Her voice has a casual tone to it as she brushes off the underlying attraction, blaming it on simple science.

Despite Dawson’s nonchalance towards her attraction, sultry bass and drums underscore what she says, hinting at the fact that Dawson’s heart will eventually win out over her head. By the time the chorus hits, Dawson can’t pretend any longer as she gives in to her heart’s desire singing “But it feels so right / When it feels so good / It’s automatic / I just gotta have it.” Gone is the casual instrumentation present in the verse, instead a disco-pop musical backdrop accompanies Dawson’s surrender to her heart’s deepest desires.

Fresh off opening for Role Model on his “No Place Like Tour,” Dawson has found herself with a plethora of new fans, and “Chemical Reaction” is the perfect track to keep them dancing through the summer heat.
